Abstract EN

This study investigates the different kinds of Algerian women’s traditional dress and their aesthetic characteristics in the colonial poster in the sense oriental arts -be them plastic or functional- have heavily relied on folklore items such as clothes, ornaments, and textile.

in addition to this, Algerian traditions are rich and variant and have inspired several oriental artists.

thus, they could not help but have a strong presence in the French colonial poster as plastic art paintings.

since the poster was one of the most important ways and visual aids that the French government had adopted to promote settlement in Algerian territories and encourage tourism depending on material folk heritage and the various landscapes that mark Algeria as advertising promotional subjects.

therefore, one can find diversified items of Algerian women's dress in a number of colonial posters particularly the Melhfa dress which is characterized by its loose cut that covers the body.
