Abstract EN

The importance of the study lies in the fact that it studies the historical development of the social system of the city of Damascus in the first Abbasid era (132247- AH) and the historical stages that preceded this era, and to identify the components of society, both Arab and loyal, and to identify their customs, traditions and religions.

This study aims to collect scattered information.

In the various sources and references and shedding light on the social aspect in order to obtain its share of research and analysis, the study followed the historical and descriptive analytical approach, and through it we came to the conclusion that the society in Damascus consists of multiple elements and also consists of different groups in economic terms, despite the religious and ethnic plurality of the components of society Peaceful coexistence prevailed among them, as Muslims and Christians lived in common neighborhoods, and the sons of Muslims studied with the sons of Christians.

The policy of bringing the tribes together has played a major role in creating economically diverse groups, and society can be divided into two categories: the first category is the princes, senior leaders and merchants, and the second represents the common people and they are the majority of the population.

The society interacted with the luxurious life that included the Abbasid era and this was reflected in the various aspects of social life such as clothes, food ...

etc.

The clothes distinguished between the different groups.

The Muslims had their own uniforms as well as the Christians.

Even the professions had a special dress for each profession, and he excelled the people of Damascus in making foods Celebrations of Muslim and Christian feasts were carried out in a way that reflected the spirit of religious tolerance among members of society.

Through the study, we learned about the customs and traditions accompanying marriage among Muslims and Christians, and how this is done, and the customs of mourning.

The people of Damascus paid great attention to their external appearance and took great care in choosing their clothes, which is confirmed by the crowding of markets for fabrics and tailors’ shops with customers in different periods.
