Abstract EN

The concept of sustainability is one of the modern concepts that contribute to solving all contemporary problems, and the most important of which is the urban problems that cities suffer from in planning the selection of urban sites for the establishment of new cities.

The research aims to conduct an evaluation of the sites of the new proposed cities (Ali Al-Wordi City - Al-Nahrawan), the study area, using the policies, methods and analytical models that mainly included the (SWOT) model and computer software such as geographic information systems (GIS) to find out the extent to which the standards of sustainable spatial signature match with the selected sites in achieving the goal of establishing the city and its continuity.

In the theoretical part, several indicators and criteria have been extracted to show the extent to which the decision to choose a city’s location is linked to the main goal of its establishment, as well as to measure the extent to which the criteria for spatial signature and urban sustainability (environmental, economic, social, and urban) match the selected sites.

One of the most important factors that contribute to choosing the most appropriate sites is that the location of the new city is spatially important to regional interconnections, neighborhoods and urban centers, and that planning a new city also includes planning activities, activities and resources on which the population depends and is done by studying the economic and social demographic characteristics and the quality of activities.

They need them according to the nature and characteristics of the new city spatially.

In addition, applying sustainability standards and following planning standards for services and resources in the new city will achieve the desired goal of its establishment.

The research recommended that the decision to choose a city’s site should be linked to the main goal of its establishment, due to the extent of the impact of the new city’s location on its growth rates, the population’s demand for it, and its sustainability.
