The study aimed to identify the impact of the water-irrigation situation on the cultivation of wheat and barley crops in Al-Muthanna Governorate during the period (2000-2021), as they are two main crops of great nutritional importance to the population in general.

There are a number of challenges that impede the cultivation of wheat and barley crops in the study area, including: fluctuations in rainfall, varying amounts of water (surface and groundwater), succession of dry years, and different climatic and weather conditions, which led to an increase in agricultural risks, and a decrease in the flow of the Euphrates river And the limited water harvesting projects to exploit seasonal running water in the Badia valleys.
