The introduction of the mechanism of constitutional individual complaints has been recent in the region, except for Egypt most other countries didn't have it until after 2011, and even the countries that included it in the new constitutions have been failing at implementing it, much like Morocco and Tunisia.

Algeria introduced this system in the 2016 constitution, issued its organic law in 2018 and started its implementation a year later.

This paper seeks to examine the possible effects of such a mechanism on the protection of human rights in Algeria, by assessing HR in the Algerian legal system, how individual complaints might help and the possible role of the constitutional court if the mechanism is to succeed.
