English Abstract
In the Sultanate of Oman (hereinafter referred to as “Oman”), the demand for electric power has been rising rapidly due to the rapid economic and population growth in recent times.
In particular, the promotion of the special economic zone to break the dependence on the oil industry is expected to accelerate the growth of demand for electric power.
Port of Salalah is one of the major ports in Oman where the demand for energy is significantly high due to the port activities.
The proposed study aimed to identify the main administrative issues, challenges, risks and difficulties that lead to unsustainable use and dependence on renewable energy in the port of Salalah.
In addition, the study aims to know the most appropriate management strategy that can be used in the management of renewable energy in the port of Salalah as well as in other parts of the country (Oman).
To achieve these goals, the proposed study will use a blended research approach to explore and identify key management issues, challenges, risks and difficulties that impede the sustainability as well as the dependence or dependence on renewable energy in the port.
As such, the study investigated the relationship between management strategies (commonly used in the Port of Salalah specifically in renewable energy management) with the level of renewable energy consumption, the reliance on renewable energy, and government policies and regulations related to renewable energy.
The findings of the study showed that management strategies is positively affected by renewable energy consumption level, and reliance on renewable energy at Salalah Port.
The analysis prepared in this research showed that the level of renewable energy consumption across the Port of Salalah is gradually increasing over time according to most of the respondents (more than 60%), especially those working in the energy sector.
Moreover, a large percentage of respondents also believe that they are switching to using renewable energy sources (such as solar panels) from nonrenewable energy providers to power a large number of energy-consuming activities in their homes or at the local level.
