Abstract EN

The current research aimed to establish a list of criteria to assess the role of the Massive Open Online Courses platforms (MOOC) in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, through reviewing some literature related to MOOC platforms (concept, characteristics, patterns) and through highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of educational platforms, their quality standards and their implications in teaching and learning so as to devise a number of technical standards that can be relied upon in designing and evaluating the effectiveness of MOOC platforms.

To achieve this objective, the researcher employed a descriptive and analytical approach.

The study provided a proposed model represented in a standard technical list consisting of (3) criteria, (16) sub-factors, (30) indicators.

It can be relied upon in developing a design for evaluating the effectiveness of MOOC platforms and their role in facing educational crises in light of global pandemics.

The list was judged by (30) faculty members at (6) universities (the Universities of Jeddah, King Saud, Umm Al-Quarin in KSA; the University of Sultan Qaboos in Oman and the University of Minya, Mansoura in Egypt.

The percentage of agreement was calculated according to the (Cooper) formula, where the percentage of agreement for the indicators ranged between (76.67% - 93.33%), and for the sub-factors ranged between (78.33% - 93.33%), and the criteria ranged between (85.09% - 88.89%), and the agreement rate for technical standards reached (86.22%).

the percentage of agreement for the standard list reached (87.75%), all of which are not less than 80%.

The researcher recommended increasing awareness of the importance of MOOC platforms and the vast amount of knowledge they provide to develop the capabilities and skills of individuals, and recommended directing educational institutions that supervise MOOC platforms to develop educational and technical standards for them, especially in light of the growing competition in providing services by these platforms.
