The Renaissance Dam crisis has emerged as one of the most important challenges facing the countries sharing the transboundary water resource, such as the "Nile Basin" region as a model, in addition to the international policy and security interactions affecting the structure of the interactive relations of the basin countries.

The water dispute over the Renaissance Dam also highlighted old differences between the upstream and downstream countries surrounding the Nile Basin, in which international and regional parties played a pivotal role in managing its crisis according to strategic plans that each international unit seeks to give priority to its interests in the region.

From this standpoint, we have shed light on the role of the external environment in the Renaissance Dam crisis, by studying the causes and motives that led to the emergence of the dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia, the determinants and interactions, as well as the role of international and regional actors affecting the management of the crisis.
