The study aimed to find out the difference in the level of adaptation between the elderly resident in the extended family and those who resident in the nuclear family.

The result of the study has showed the following: * There are significant difference in the level of adaptation between the elderly resident in the extended family and those who resident in the nuclear family.

* The adaptation was lower in the elderly resident away from their children with a high degree of pessimism that affected their psychological and social adaptation.
