One of the distinctive nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) is the Bayfol (DPF) which is distinct by its high strength and stability.
the author used UV spectroscopic methodology to obtain information concerning the influence of γ doses (8-50 kGy) on the optical character of DPF films.
the alternations of Urbach energy (Eu), optical band gap (Eg) and refractive index (n) with the γ dose were interpreted.
an increase in both Eu (0.26-0.61 eV) and n (1.5663-1.5764) associated with a reduction of Eg (6.71-6.58 eV) was noticed when increasing the dose up to 50 kGy.
these trends were assign to the dominance of chain crosslinks.
the γ radiation encourages the transesterification interaction between PC and Ps leading to a more compact structure of the Bayfol copolymer.
additionally, the CIE technique was used to calculate the color differences among the uncolored pristine and the irradiated films.
the induced crosslinking formed color centres that led to the increase of the color difference (ΔE) values to be more than 5, thus Bayfol could be used in in dosimetry applications.
