Abstract EN

The current research aims to shed light on the methods of teaching listening.

It addresses the concept of listening, its importance and its relationship to other language skills, and the basics of its teaching.

It also presents the method of strategic listening as a model in teaching listening.

Planning the listening session by studying the text and the students’ biographies, formulating the outcomes and behavioral indicators indicating the sub-skills of listening skills and implementing the lesson in three stages: before, during and after listening, and assessing the listening skills are all addressed.

To achieve the objectives of the current research, the researchers surveyed what was written about the methods of teaching listening, a number of local studies in the reality of the Jordanian curriculum, and the Arab studies that dealt with the teaching of listening and strategic listening skills as well as the researchers’ observations.

There is a lack of research about strategic listening despite the large number of previous studies and research in the field of teaching listening skills.

Strategic listening has always been taught as a separate sub-skill and not within the communicative approach except for curriculum frameworks.

This led to choosing strategic listening as a model for the current study.

The two researchers also recommended conducting a case study on the weaknesses of listening skills among basic stage students and further studies aimed at instructing Arabic language teachers how to use the method of strategic listening both at home and from a distance.

A teacher's guide needed to be prepared using standards and performance indicators in language skills.
