Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the awareness of students of the special education department at the college of basic education about central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) in terms of its symptoms, causes, intervention strategies, as well as the relationship of their awareness level to some of the demographic variables.

The study was applied to 287 students of various academic levels, subspecialties, and completed modules, using a questionnaire developed for this purpose.

The results showed a general inability to distinguish CAPD from other related conditions with mutual features, such as deafness, learning difficulties and behavioral disorders.

Further, the students’ extent of awareness correlated with their major and the number of completed modules.

The study put forward its recommendations as of the importance of evaluating and updating the teaching curricula continuously in order to qualify student teachers with proficient knowledge of developments in the field.
