Abstract EN

International Human Rights treaties have given great attention to the right to adequate housing, as an essential part of human rights.

The human right to adequate housing is one of the variables of the quality of urban life, which includes social, economic, urban and environmental variables.

The research aims to measure the variation in the quality of residential life and the degree of residents' satisfaction with their residential life in the cities of Sharkia Governorate in order to improve the cities that suffer from an inappropriate residential environment and to propose appropriate solutions to them and to achieve sustainable urban development.

The researcher used many study methods, including the behavioral and the functional approach, and the spatial analysis approach.

It relied on the quantitative and statistical method in extracting objective and subjective indicators of the quality of residential life in the cities, and in analyzing the results of the questionnaire prepared for this purpose.

The study resulted in classifying the quality of residential life in the cities of into four types (well-being, disharmony, adaptation and deprivation).

Accordingly, this study recommends the need to pay attention to improving the quality of residential life in Sharkia Governorate in general, with a focus on cities that were classified within the two types of deprivation and adaptation.
