Abstract EN

The research aims at verifying the effectiveness of a training program based on sensory integration in developing joint attention skills among a sample of children with autism disorder.

the study sample consists of (10) whose autism coefficient ranged between (111 120) on the Gilliam autism diagnostic scale, and their intelligence scores ranged between (85-90) on the Stanford binet scale, according to the institution’s estimates.

the study sample is randomly divided into two groups: experimental and control groups with (5) children each group.

the homogeneity of the two groups is achieved in terms of chronological age, mental age, autism degree, joint attention skills and social communication.

they›re applied by two study scales (prepared by researcher) and the Gilliam autism diagnostic scale, in addition to the training program.

the research results are: there are statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the experimental group and the control one for the post-measurement on the scales of joint attention skills and social communication except two dimensions of initiation to demand and emotional exchange, respectively, there are statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the pre and post measurement among the experimental group on the two study scales except two dimensions of initiation to demand and emotional exchange, respectively, there are no statistically significant differences between the mean ranks of the post and follow-up measurement scores among the experimental group on the scales of joint attention skills and social communication except for the two previous dimensions, and the effect of the training program on the scale of joint attention skills among the experimental group ranged between (0.894-0.909); which indicates the effectiveness of the program and the strength of its impact.
