Journalism is constantly clashing with power in its various forms, both physical and symbolic.

This overlap is due to the association of journalism as a profession for revealing facts and controlling discourse and the public sphere, whether with material or symbolic tools.

Journalistic practice requires journalists in many cases to always deal with power as another that is linked to the press in friendly relations or estrangement, without putting themselves in the place of that other that produces power or moves it.

The journalist’s awareness of his symbolic power and his ability to produce and animate it is no less important than material power with its various tools, whether political or economic.

This article discusses the journalist’s awareness of his symbolic power, and the value of this awareness in professional practice and social interaction.
