Abstract EN

This paper deals with the problem of equality between women and men, and the controversy that resulted from it in contemporary Tunisian society which almost blew the deep demands related to the reality of the impoverished classes and marginalized popular groups.

The Tunisian General Labour Union considers an area of our research and tracing some experiences indicating the depth of the gender crisis and its repercussions on the logic of the functioning of society in its various sectors.

The experiences of female trade unionists are a reflection of the UGTT School and the degree of Tunisian society’s interaction and interaction with it, given the democratic traditions of this organization and the importance of responsibilities within it.

Historical experiences are at the core of the Tunisian General Labour Union as one of the pillars of the human rights march for working women concerning major humanitarian issues, the mental makeup of Tunisian society, the challenges they face, and the difficulties that await them at the union level as well as at the family and community level.

We considered that the history curriculum and traced the most important experiences of the trade unionist Sherifa Al-Masaadi is a feature of women’s rights in an organization that has its historical, national, and societal symbolism.

In addition to the biography of Mahmoud Al-Masadi’s wife and through the comparative approach, we presented some experiences indicating the degree of change, if there is any at all, in the human rights system for Tunisian women based on the path of Tunisian trade unionists in the contemporary period.

In this context, we conducted interviews with some women who have union responsibilities, and we analysed the paradox between the legal text and the “culture of union work” by analysing the “crystal ceiling” that prevents the value system from engaging in women’s equity and strengthening the system of individual freedoms in society.

The methodology for tracking the various historical milestones that women have gone through and understanding the extent of Hashhad’s response to development entitlements through its consideration of the women’s rights system and the extent of the presence of women in leadership within the UGTT structures.

The motivation behind this study is to investigate whether the problem of equality between women and men has its societal depth, or is it merely elite speculation and an intellectual luxury that disrupts the societal project that began in 2011 and nullifies the deep goals of an important section of Tunisian society.

As for the second part of the problem, it is in what the real difficulty lies in the problem of equality, is it in the culture and the “daily living bag” of society or the legal system and the lack of texts guaranteeing women’s rights and their appeal to men.
