L’atmosphère carcérale dans "Le Désert Des Tartares" de Dino Buzzati et l’absurde emprise du temps

The desert of the Tartars is the evidence of an absurd choice of life fed by the chimeras and dreams of a character who pretended to live, but who, finally, was forced to consume his life in expectation, imprisoned in a fort.

What dominated in this story is the suffering, the isolation, the imprisonment and above all the self-imprisonment which made the character Drogo a social masochist.

Like a house of cards, the «dream» of glory collapsed and the whole reality of the fort was revealed because the tartars never came: the fort is in reality an open-air prison that chained the spirits thirsty for glory, by usurping their youth and their dreams because their crime is hope.

Such a transformation of the officer Giovanni Drogo existence was a series of quests emblematic of utopia traced by his naivety which was the object of a real irony of fate.

The strings of this spell began with a simple awe for the fort and ended with the pre¬eminence of social and psychic evils ranging from social masochism to illness.

The character collapsed under the weight of a very heavy destiny, fed by the very slow tempo of the time of Fort Bastiani.

Le désert des tartares est un roman qui explore les gouffres de la conscience d'un personnage à la lumière de l'isolement et l'auto-enfermement dans un style monotone, à la limite de l'arrêt du temps.

Le personnage Giovanni Drogo reflète en partie le rêveur condamné à perpétuité, et le personnage nihiliste à la limite de l'absurde qui consume sa vie enfermé dans le Fort Bastiani, attendant l'arrivée des tartares qui ne viennent pas.

Et c'est ce que Dino Buzzati a cherché à sonder dans cette sorte de texte unique par son processus créatif, et qui est original par son tempo très lent qui adhère parfaitement aux complexités discursives d'un roman vénérant le silence.

Le personnage Drogo, figure de l'anti¬héros, a donc vécu une période charnière ouverte par la tentation d'exister, close par la mort qui l'attend mais qui est emblématique par les chimères qui l'enveloppent, les tartares qui la guettent et le masochisme social qui émerge.
