The earliest knowledge we have of music dates back to Western civilization through the writings of Greek philosophers, but Western studies have not paid much attention to Muslim philosophers, especially in the field of music, although Al-Kindi was one of the first to introduce music into Arab culture.

Music has become an integral part of science curricula and the philosophy of mathematics.

The philosophers of Islam turned to music, they classified books and letters, and regarded music as a mathematical science.

Among the most famous hilosophers Elfarabi, who established the foundations of musicology as theoretical and practical knowledge.

One of his most well-known works is The Big Book of Music.

Interest in music reached its peak with "'ikhwan al-safa" who devoted a letter on the nature of music, in which they dealt with the concept of music, its types and meanings, types of sounds, of melodies as well as musical instruments.

In this article, we will try to address the status of music in Elfarabi's philosophy as well as the art of music with “'ikhwan al-safa'”.
