The removal efficiencies of different materials for the removal of crude oil from water were investigated.
Three agrowaste (Almond shell, olive stones, date stones), and two natural clay from Ejkerah city and Gandulah village were used for the study.
The study was particularly focused on the removal of crude oil with almond shells at batch column.
The influence of contact time and temperature effect were studied by contacting 0.2 g of the almond shell with 1000ppm crude oil on 25 ml water at 298,308 and 318 K, the removal efficiencies were found to be decreases with temperature, the results obtained from adsorption isotherm indicated that these data can be better fitted with the Langmuir and Freundlich equations.
The adsorption kinetics was analyzed using pseudo first and second order kinetic models.
The kinetic data were well described by pseudo second order model.
Fixed bed column studies were carried out using a glass column of 30mm internal diameter and 300mm length.
The adsorbents weight was 2.5gm, the contaminated solution introduced into the column at 2.5ml/min at the room temperature.
The result indicated that the removal efficiency is nearly constant along the time of experiment, and its find to be 75% with olive stones, 74.5% with date stones, 86% with natural clay collected from Ejkerah city and 79.7% with natural clay collected from Gandulah village.
