Abstract EN

Libya is a promising place where a great potential of renewable energy resources is highly assigned.

One of these renewable resources is the wind energy, which in which Tarhuna city is nominated as one of the windy regions in the northwest of the country.

The main goal of the current study is to investigate the wind characteristics of Tarhuna site by taken into consideration a generic wind turbine of 2 MW.

The local wind speed along with its direction was measured every 10 min within a multiple trial technique for a period of almost one year (from 01-11-2006 until 31-102007).

The annual energy yield is mainly evaluated by applying the so- called Ahwid's methods through Excel work sheet, whereas the WindPro software is implemented to figure out wind direction (wind rose).

The study eventually shows promising results where the possibility of obtaining a maximum amount of 5.56 GWh or 2780 Ehs at 90 m diameter is revealed [1].
