Abstract EN

The load frequency control (LFC) with Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is used to minimize the frequency deviation and maintain the desired power (megawatt) at their scheduled value due to the changes of the step load disturbance in line power between control areas.

However, in the conventional controllers further fine tuning is still needed.

In this paper, the conventional PID controller is improved using Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique to determine optimal tuning of PID controller parameters.

In order to ensure that the tie-line power and the frequency of the multisource power system were within acceptable limits.

A different type of energy sources transfer function block diagram models are simulated as multi area power system by using MATLAB/SIMULINK tool.

The overall effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was tested at increment and decrement loads, it is concluded that the use of GA technique can improve the performance indicators of the system.
