Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to study the poetic tradition in the poetry of Nasir al-Din al-Assad, in his poetry collection (Hams wa Bouh).

Al-Assad is one of the Jordanian writers and critics who has a prominent presence in the critical movement.

Many critics addressed the issue of tradition such as: Ali Ashri Zayed in his “Summoning the Traditional Personalities in Contemporary Arab Poetry” and Youssef Abu Sobeih in his “Traditional Contents in Contemporary Jordanian Poetry”, etc.

But they did not address Nasser al-Din al-Assad’s poetic experience in detail; Al-Assad was more acknowledged in the field of literature and criticism than that in poetry.

This study was conducted in an important scope: the employment of tradition in the poetry of Nasser al-Din al-Assad; due to his intimate connection with pre Islamic poetry, the model and the elite; which cast shadow over his poetry.

The research revealed several titles, including: the importance of employing tradition, the religious stream, the literary and historical stream, and the inspiration of figures.

The research revealed the psychological, emotional and intellectual aspects of the poet through his poems which have enriched the poetic text both semantically and artistically.

The study adopted the structural approach by examining the language of the text, its syntax, and the arrangement of its ideas
