La motivation onomastique à l’épreuve de la traduction : le cas du roman dibien : comme un bruit d’abeilles

Abstract EN

This paper is a comparative study of an Algerian novel “comme un bruit d'abeilles” (2001) written in French by Mohammed dib (1920-2003) and its translation in Arabic by Diala Taouk (2007).

it mainly sheds light on how the novel is sprinkled with an abundant and multilingual onomastic system with a strong cultural load.

in this context, this particularity raises the issue of the future of onomastics in literary translation and whether we should register or hide the onomastic motivation.

to investigate this matter and to answer the problematic, we should rely in particular on the research of Michel Ballard (2001, 2005), whose name is affiliated with the onomastic approach in translation.

Ballard's theoretical concepts will allow to identify the foremost options that are related to the two contrasting strategies of exoticization and naturalization.
