Abstract EN

This research evaluates the economic effects of remittances of Sudanese working abroad (SWA) on Sudan economy.

significance of this research comes from the role of the SWA remittances as a major source of foreign exchange for the country.

the assessment is built on three hypotheses including the existence of positive relationships between the remittances of the SWA, on the one hand, and merchandise exports, gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign exchange reserves, on the other hand.

the results obtained from econometric analysis prove the validity of these hypotheses.

the research recommends drawing more attention to improving performance of the mechanisms for attracting remittances of SWA and activating the role of Sudan embassies and consulates in this matter, besides, providing conducive environment for SWA investments and remittances, and stabilizing policies of foreign exchange and exchange rates.
