Abstract AR
Abstract EN
Is the act of translating free from all ethical constraints ? our hypothesis is, no.
the translator should cede the significance, even the authority of the language he is translating to the original speaking-subject.
however, what we observe is a demand for freedom to modify the original texts.
freedom enshrined in translation studies for the personal understanding of the translator.
which is already an opacity, and which would be motivated by the expectation of the receiver.
as such, how does the translator know (second opacity) ? in this article, nothing is less likely than this understanding and expectation.
among the original texts modified by the translation there are the sacred corpora.
in our case it will be the Koran.
not for fideist reason, but to discuss a question which engages an entire anthropology : is it translated or reinvented ; and under cover of translation specialists ? our hypothesis is that this is ultimately a different text.
however, this will sharply raise an ethical problem because the receiver, who reads Hemingway in Arabic, truly believes that he is reading the American himself and his culture, while he’s reading the text of the translator; himself and his culture.
what’is the fate of the sacred text anthropologically ?
