Abstract EN

The maritime carrier of goods must deliver the goods to the consignee or his legal representative, the maritime carrier is liable for losses or damages caused to the goods from the time they are assigned to it until they are delivered to consignee or his legal representative.

In order to protect the maritime carrier, the Algerian legislature, and like international conventions, has approved reasons or situations of exemption from liability for the benefit of the maritime carrier, which may be to the detriment of the shipper, so there are reasons for exemption that are not related to the exploitation of the ship and are based on general rules of civil law, and there are special reasons for exemption associated with the exploitation of the ship, which are regulated by maritime law.
