The purpose of the toponymic study is to identify the origin of naming a place and the developments that have taken place over time.

this designation is mainly associated with either the geography of the place such as the terrain, or with the type of plant or animal, or names that link peoples and tribes to their lands.

this research seeks to shed light on the utopianism of the city of Mostaganem and its environs, as this latter and its rich folklore is one of the samples which has the appropriate geography for the toponymic study, as the names have the meanings of the origin of the situation and other meanings controlled by circumstances.

from this standpoint the following results were reached : -toponymic research is among the disciplines of a strategic nature in applied studies.

indeed, it is an anthropological, sociological and linguistic material, as it suggests many indications that help to understand society under study in its various aspects.

-the toponimations in the Mostaganem region are attributed to the righteous saints, and others are often attributed to the rebellions of the Algerian revolution.
