Real and virtual are mixed in mysterious and linked relationships within the combination of new applications of web 2.0, which made the virtual communication a digital platform for creating spaces of various types of communication, that giving internet complex, social and creative mode.

thus the internet is not just a technical medium, but it is a space in which limits between private and public, between real and virtual, between imaginary and real are confused.

thus virtual communication played cognitive, cultural, and relational roles, where liberty from limits, from distances, and from social controls is released.

thus, we try in this paper to approach “virtual communication” by addressing with the meaning of the word “virtual” and trying to find its etymology, then we talk about the “virtual presence”, and in the third section we deal with virtual societies, their contexts, characteristics, and stakes.
