This research is to deal with the emergence and development of school dictionaries trying to answer the two following questions : -when did the thinking of making school dictionaries start and what the causes the led to their emergence and what are the factors that helped them to develop ? -what are the characteristics of modern school dictionaries and what are the features of modern school dictionaries ? the research discussed first the beginning of Arabic school dictionaries, which are the abbreviations, disciplines and brief dictionaries, which began to be written in the second half of the fourth century of migration.
