Rivalry is a fundamental phenomenon.

it received a great academic attention by researchers and theorists in international relationships; as a field of knowledge.

therefore, to study the American-Russian rivalry in the middle east, we find ourselves in front of two types of theoretical approaches to assimilate such a competition; the first one belongs to the theories of international relationships, where we find ourselves in front of three basic theories with different perceptions of this phenomenon, namely: the realistic theory, the liberal theory, and the Marxist theory.

as for the second one, these approaches belong to the geopolitics field, concerning by strategic control theories, where the researcher finds himself in front of many approaches regarding to the field of rivalry and conflict between countries over the control of areas of strategic importance.
