The republic of South Sudan is a multi-ethnic sovereign entity, composed of a culturally diverse population.

while this ethnic diversity is the country's rich national heritage, it has always been a source of internal ethnic contention in South Sudan.

since South Sudan gained independence on July 9, 2011, the country has witnessed local inter-ethnic conflicts, most notably conflicts rooted in grazing land, theft of livestock, and access to natural resources.

despite the multiple, concerted and continuous national and local efforts to address security challenges arising from ethnic differences, this phenomenon still persists and makes the overall situation somewhat fragile.

it is clear that the agreements failed to reveal solutions and provide solutions to the crisis, and therefore it is necessary to adopt a new approach to study the causes of the problem and its solutions.

this article seeks to study and analyze tribal and ethnic conflicts as a challenge in the state-building process in South Sudan.
