Abstract EN

The extent of the availability of scientific thinking skills in science book activities for grades (7-9) of basic education in the Republic of Yemen This study aimed to investigate the extent of the availability of scientific thinking skills in science activities for grades 7-9 of basic education in the Republic of Yemen.

The study sample consisted of all science books for grades (7- 9) of basic education, in its first and second parts for the academic year 2020/2021.

To achieve the aim of the study, a list of scientific thinking skills was prepared, then the researcher made an analysis form containing five primary skills of scientific thinking: (interpretation of data, the skill of defining the problem, the skill of deduction, the skill of suggesting hypotheses, and the skill of choosing the most appropriate hypotheses).

The tool credibility was verified by showing it to a group of experts and specialists in science curricula.

In addition, the tool stability was confirmed through estimating it via Copper's equation.

After conducting the analysis process, the study revealed a number of results, the most important of which are the following: 1- It was concluded that the total frequency of scientific thinking skills as a whole in the activities of science books for grades (7-9) of basic education amounted to (816) skills, where the highest rate of availability was of data interpretation skill (31%), and the skill of choosing the most appropriate hypotheses came in the fifth and last rank with a percentage of (9%).

2- The total frequency of scientific thinking skills as a whole in the activities of the science book for the seventh grade is (210) skills, where the highest rate of availability was of data interpretation skill (30%), and the skill of choosing the most appropriate hypotheses came in the fifth and last rank with a percentage of (10%).

3- The total frequency of scientific thinking skills as a whole in the activities of the science book for the eighth grade was (290) skills, where the highest rate of availability was of the skill of data interpretation (32%), and the skill of choosing the most appropriate hypotheses came in the fifth and last rank with a percentage of (9%).

4- The total frequency of scientific thinking skills as a whole in the activities of the science book for the ninth grade was (316) skills, where the highest rate of availability was of the skill of data interpretation (32%), and the skill of choosing the most appropriate hypotheses came in the fifth and last rank with a percentage of (9%).
