Abstract EN

This study aimed to know the effect of the CORT (1) program for teaching thinking on the academic achievement of first secondary school students at Ahmed al- Abadi School for Girls in Omdurman locality and their retention of the subject.

the study followed the quasi-experimental approach based on two groups (control and experimental) using two tests (before and after), the tool was represented in the CORT (1) program to teach thinking and an achievement test in a prescribed unit.

the study sample consisted of 80 female students in the first secondary school at Ahmed Bashir al-Abadi School who were chosen intentionally.

the sample was divided into two equal groups : an experimental group of 40 students who studied the unit in the light of the CORT (1) program.), a female control group of 40 students who studied the prescribed unit in the traditional way ; the researchers used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program.

the results showed the following : there are statistically significant differences at the significance level of (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of the students of the two groups ; the experimental group got a total average of (28.28 out of 30), in contrast to the control group, and got an overall mean of (24.30) ; In the post-measurement of the achievement test in the chemistry course, the difference is in favor of the experimental.

there are no statistically significant differences at (α ≤ 0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group in both the post-measurement and follow- up of the achievement test, which indicates their retention of the material.

in light of these results, the researchers made a number of recommendations, the most important of which are : Introducing the idea of the CORT program (1) to teach thinking in teaching chemistry courses at the secondary level, redesigning and building science curricula at the secondary stage in the Republic of Sudan in accordance with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and holding training courses for teachers in various disciplines in the CORT program for skills development Students' thinking in addition to future proposals on the subject.
