Abstract EN

The goal of this study was to assess Islamic banks' digitalization experience based on their performance during the corona pandemic, based on an analytical descriptive approach and a case study of Islamic banks in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, using quarterly data from March 2019 to December 2021.

the study found that Saudi Islamic banks have a significant part of the Saudi banking sector and that they are adopting digital technologies at an increasing rate.

this allowed it to continue operating during the epidemic, but profits were down compared to before the crisis due to the high rate of default caused by the stoppage of economic activities.

the Saudi central bank's support for these banks, as well as the reserves they accumulated to comply with the Basel III agreement, played a critical role in ensuring the stability of Islamic banks and their ability to continue financing the Saudi economy in the face of the crisis.
