The proposed paper aims to know the nature of the relationship between the two phenomena of food security as an alternative concept of self-sufficiency and sustainable development, especially if we know that both have experienced significant developments and practical and theoretical overlaps that vary and the nature of each historical phase.

to study and analyses various aspects of the topic, the analytical descriptive approach and the historical approach have been adopted to identify the essential elements of both and to better understand the nature of their relationship.

the paper reached a series of findings : despite the overlapping goals, sustainable development remains far more comprehensive than food security, its areas are broader and its dimensions greater.

it has also become clear that in an era of globalization, food has become a deadly weapon, such as a weapon of real battles, used to bring down states and change other countries' geography.
