This study aims to implement the functional approach of translation onto the legal text to understand the extent to which the purpose of the legal text impacts its typology and then setting a strategy for translation.

several functionalists related the translation strategy to the function of the language and the type of the text; meanwhile, others said that the translation strategy is subject to the function of the target text in the target language.

another view considered legal translation as a professional translation of a commercial nature and it has a goal that is predetermined by the initiator/customer, taking into account the social and cultural context of the target language.

this study affords a holistic functional model that would overcome the difficulties of legal translation.
