We aim through this paper, to show the critical importance of terroir products with geographical indications, as one of the most important aspects related to intellectual property.

this research has concluded that geographical indications have a positive impact on local development on several levels : the impact may be economic through the creation of direct and indirect job opportunities, as well as their ability to access markets.

it may be social, which is related to the protection of the cultural heritage, and it may be touristic, which contributes to attracting tourists and making those areas that have a regional competitive advantage one of the most prominent tourist destinations.
