Abstract EN

The food is linked to the cultural heritage of societies and reflects the cultural identity of each human society.

this is why we see that many societies aware of the importance of this cultural heritage are working to preserve it, especially as they live in an era of cultural globalization and acculturation and harassment it entails for other cultures.

this is what draws attention to the food culture of Algerian society, dominated by a new color ; it has changed from the traditional style to the modern style, and it has been modified by the wave of cultural changes that the rest of the socio-cultural phenomena of the society have experienced, due to the increased mobility and exchanges caused by the development of the means of communication, so that his food culture has taken on new forms which may affect his origins and the cultural identity of his society.

this article aimed to expose one of the manifestations of social change, which is the change in the phenomenon of food culture in Algerian society, and to clarify the impact of these changes on its cultural identity.

the article concluded that the food culture was subject to cultural invasion, but the Algerian individual still adheres to traditional Algerian food, due to its symbolic connotations, and this change is what has been called "social whimsy".
