Abstract EN

This paper focuses onone of the most important modern critical tendencies, which is the "reader's response criticism" attributed to the American school of criticism.

this criticism tendency believes that the reader is one of the elements of the literary work.

it reconsiders this element, which was neglected from other critical insights before (considering only author, text) .therefore, the duality turns into a trilogy (author, text, reader).

owing to the ambiguity surrounding these critical basics and terms and since knowing their intellectual backgrounds can help to understand them, the aim of the study was to tracetheir origin through a descriptive and historical approach, and know their foundations and term problems through a critical analytical approach.

I concluded that the theory had copied the traditional focus on the process of producing texts and studying them in themselves into a comprehensive vision after considering the responses and reactions of the reader as a criterion in the critical foundation, especially after relying on psychology in interpreting the responses.
