During the past years, the Egyptian cotton crop witnessed a decline in the cultivated area from about 628 thousand feddans during the period (2000-2006) to about 245 thousand feddans during the period (2014-2020), in addition to a decline in the amount of production from about 681 thousand tons during the first period to about 258 thousand tons during the second period, which negatively affected the relative arrangement of Egypt globally in terms of production and global trade, and this resulted in the trend towards importing short-staple cotton to cover the needs of the industry local spinning and weaving, which in turn led to its negative impact on the agricultural trade balance, the research aims to shed light on the development of cotton production and trade in both Egypt and the world, and the geographical distribution of the most important cotton-producing countries in the world in terms of volume of production, cultivated area and productivity per unit area, and the relative importance of Egypt in the global cotton map in terms of production and trade, as well as the extent of the stability of each Egyptian exports and imports of international cotton.

the results of the research showed a decline in the productive and economic indicators of the cotton crop in Egypt.

the productivity was stable, and the volume of production decreased by about 82.6% between its maximum and minimum limits.

both the quantity of exports and the quantity used decreased by about 87.9% and 49.7%, respectively, while the quantity increased.

which were imported by about 78.33, and at the global level, some of these indicators in the world were characterized by an increase and some of them were stable during the study period (2000-2020), the research recommended maximizing the benefit of Egyptian cotton with its global reputation by manufacturing it locally instead of exporting it as a raw material, and expanding the cultivation of short-staple varieties in new lands along with maintaining leadership in long-staple cotton, and working to increase cotton productivity by providing chemical fertilizers and production requirements, and establishing a balancing fund for cotton prices, taking the necessary measures and standards to implement competition protection and preventing monopolistic practices by companies and cotton factories, and applying contract farming between the farmer and the trader in the pre-cultivation stage, and supporting research scientific.
