Abstract EN

The rivalry between Great powers for gaining access to markets and to spheres of influence took the form, lately, of competing connectivity and infrastructures geopolitical projects, in the framework of rising needs in infrastructure in the emerging and developing economies.

In response to China's Belt and Road Initiative, known as the "New Silk Road", issued in 2013, the Western great powers unveiled opposite and concurrent initiatives, such as the United States' Build Back Better World (B3W), the European Union' Global Gateway, the Indian-Japanese initiative for Eastern Africa and the British initiative Clean Green.
