Abstract EN

Scholars disagreed about defining the nature of the relationship between the terms ‘’text’’ and ‘’discourse’’ because of their different points of views.

while some scholars consider them as related terms, that is to say, used without any difference, others consider them separated terms that are used to identify different meanings and to set point on distinct significations.

accordingly, the discourse is oriented and directed to a listener (who is an active receiver), whereas the text is oriented and directed to a reader (who is a passive receiver).

this systematic confusion between the above-mentioned terms led to their misuse especially in researches with Arabic.

in this research paper we will try shed light on the common points between ‘’text’’ and ‘’discourse’’ and to show the conceptual boundaries separating them.
