The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by a unique environmental diversity that extends over an area of about 2 million KM2, with a varied terrain between plains, valleys, plateaus, hills, deserts, and oases, in addition to the sea coasts on the red sea and the Arabian Gulf, which made it enjoy a diverse food basket of agricultural and animal products.

as matter of fact, the Kingdom was able, thanks to this diversity, to achieve self-sufficiency in a number of products during the coronavirus pandemic, and the subsequent food crises in a number of countries because of the interruption of global food supplies.

the present study attempts to identify the role played by the local media in addressing food security issues in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through assessment of Saudi journalists in ‘newspapers and internet websites’ of the level of handling of the food security crisis by these means.
