Abstract EN

The term "citizenship" has been used in our contemporary language on various cultural, political, and social, media, educational and even religious levels.

The Arab Islamic societies are experiencing instances of turmoil and tension, states of schisms and differences in trends and doctrines, which have led - in some cases - to internal conflict, which is due - in general - to ambiguity and confusion of the concept of citizenship among peoples and states.

They had various concepts of citizenship according to the currents in effect, until citizenship became - for some of them - belonging to a sect or a trend, or belonging to a party or political current that have nothing to do with the concept of citizenship.

On this basis, we decided to outline in this research paper the function of religion in guiding human life in contemporary Islamic society, stressing a number of goals that we seek to reach, namely: Defining the concept of citizenship in thought occidental and thought Arab Islamic, and the rooted legal of the concept, highlighting the effect of religion in establishing and consolidating the concept of citizenship and its values in the Islamic society.
