Abstract EN

In this research, we show the meaning of picking a doctrine and that not going outside the views of any of the scholars-mostly among the four imams-and walking the same paths as they did and imitating their views which is considered to be his doctrine.

We also clarify the opinions of the people of knowledge that some of them required a doctrine, some permitted it, some prohibited it, and some restricted its permissibility by imitating the four imams and not others, and some of them felt that the commoner only imitates the ones he goes to for fatwa and that he does not have a doctrine and that picking a doctrine is mostly permissible making it a means of controlling the tafaqoh and inference, so that the principles do not contradict him making it indeed permissible in his case, and senior imams such as Ibn Qudamah and al-Nawawi-may God have mercy on them-went with this view because they found stability with the principles of their imams and the integrity of their sayings against contradictions.

Some made it a ladder for others and adopted it in the educational curriculum as academic and educational stages with methodological plans which is permissible.

However, sometimes it is prohibited and forbidden if it is taken and considered as a shariaa text so that no one can deviate an iota from it and is fanatically opinionated about it, so he rejects the other doctrine, even if it is indicated by a clear text.

This is blameworthy imitation, especially for ones who are qualified in knowledge, and sometimes it is obligatory if the person in question is following his whims, taking advantage of permissible excuses according to any doctrine even though they do not apply to him and follows the sayings according to his lusts and so, sometimes he imitates a doctrine and sometimes another.

This is forbidden and he must adhere to a specific doctrine, so he does not fool around
