Abstract EN

The study aimed to investigate electronic begging on social media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using Twitter as a model.

It seeks to propose solutions to reduce the magnitude of this phenomenon.

This exploratory study seeks to identify electronic beggars and describe their reality and the variables that affect their behavior by analyzing their tweets.

The study used a qualitative approach using content analysis tools on a sample of tweets posted on Twitter involving electronic begging during a period of 4 months in 2020.

The study showed that the main reasons for electronic begging include the following : Paying off financial debts, paying electricity bills, seeking medical treatment, asking for food and paying water bills.

The results also reveal that religious occasions such as the month of Ramadan usually witness a spike in electronic begging.

People's sympathetic reactions to tweets and retweeting them were among the factors that fostered this phenomenon.

The study recommends instituting different forms of social and security systems as a means to combat all forms of electronic begging and overcome their economic and psychological impacts.
