Abstract EN

Objective: The study seeks to identify the relationship between mental toughness and competitive behavior, as well as the level of mental rigidity and competitive behavior of women players in some individual and group sports, namely: individual games (swimming, fencing), and group games (basketball, Volleyball).

Methodology: The research sample comprised (48) players: (24) players for individual games and (24) players for group games, and the descriptive method was used for its suitability to the nature of the study.

Also, the measure of mental rigidity of James Loehr (1986), and the measure of competitive behavior of Dorothy Harris (1984) were used, and the data was entered and analyzed by the statistical program (SPSS).

The study relied on descriptive statistics, test (T), Pearson correlation coefficient, computational averages, standard deviations, and percentages.

Results: the study results showed that mental rigidity had a positive relationship in the competitive behavior of women players of the national team of individual games (swimming, fencing) and group games (basketball, Volleyball), and that there were no statistically significant differences at the level of indication (α=0.5) due to the change in the type of game (individual, collective) in the level of mental rigidity and competitive behavior.

Conclusion: Women players in group and individual games have a high level of mental toughness and competitive behavior, and players with a high level of mental toughness show highly competitive behavior during competitions.
