Abstract EN

This study attempts to explore the relationship between perfectionism and help-seeking counseling in the light of some variables such as : gender, the parameters adopted for becoming a counselor, and the years of work experience in the field of counseling.

the sample consisted of 177 male and female counselors in the counseling and guidance diploma program in four regions in KSA : Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Qassim.

Opinions were collected through alying the positive and the negative perfectionism scales that were prepared by (Terry-Short; Owens; Slade & Dewey, 1995), and then they were translated and adapted to the saudi society, and the help-seeking counseling scale.

one-way (ANOVA), t-tests, and regression analysis were used.

some results of this study have indicated that : - there are no significant differences in positive or negative perfectionism in relation to gender, the parameters adopted for conversion as a counselor, and the years of work experience in the field of counseling.

- there are significant differences between the counselors with high level of positive perfectionism and those with high level of negative perfectionism in relation to "professional self-development" as a dimension of counseling help seeking, where the variations are in favor of the counselors with high level of positive perfectionism.

there are significant differences between counselors with high level of positive perfectionism and counselors with high level of negative perfectionism in relation to the "avoidance of help-seeking" as a dimension of counseling help seeking, where the differences are in favor of counselors with high level of negative perfectionism.
