Abstract EN

Objective : This study aimed to highlight the scope of information technology usage and its applications in public libraries, and to figure out the electronic services provided by public libraries for their use in information technology applications.

Methods : The study adopted a descriptive approach for accessing data that refer to measuring the use of information technology in libraries.

The current research community comprises all employees (i.e., 144) working in the public libraries of the State of Kuwait, which are affiliated to the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature.

Results : One of the most significant results of this study is the relative interest of public libraries in social media sites from the employees' point of view, due to the importance of these sites in reaching out to beneficiaries and researchers, as well as facilitating library services, especially regarding the multiplicity of tasks related to public libraries such as borrowing, database searching, answering electronic questions and other tasks that require the availability of electronic services to achieve these purposes easily and efficiently.

Conclusion : Considering these results, the study provided several recommendations, including the use of information technology in public libraries with the aim of providing electronic services, and using them in technical procedures to develop indirect services in the libraries.
