A concise, metal-free protocol has been established for the preparation of 2 arylbenzoxazoles from 2-nitrophenols and arylacetic acids via a sulfur-mediated redox decarboxyla tive cyclization reaction.
The reactions proceeded in moderate to good yields, and gram-scale is suit able.
